Unit 4: Task 26 - Managing traffic at roundabouts

Learning Outcome

The learner will be able to turn right, left and travel straight-on safely and competently at laned and unlaned roundabouts in medium to heavy traffic while complying with the law and the 'System of Car Control'.

Assessment Standard

The learner will demonstrate compliance with road craft concepts at least 80% of the time (see pages 14-21) and compliance with the law during the assessment without assistance

Requirements

Managing traffic in unlaned roundabouts
  1. Comply with the requirements and standard as documented in Task 19 - turning at unlaned roundabouts;
  2. Display competent and confident decision making when selecting safe gaps in traffic on the roundabout; and
  3. Demonstrate competent use of acceleration when joining and leaving a traffic stream on the carriageway of the roundabout.
Managing traffic in laned roundabouts
  1. Comply with the requirements and standard as laid down in Task 19 - laned roundabouts;
  2. Demonstrate early selection of correct lanes before, during and after turning or when travelling straight on at the roundabout;
  3. Display competent and confident decision making when selecting safe gaps in traffic at the roundabout; and
  4. Demonstrate competent use of acceleration when joining and leaving a traffic stream on the carriageway of the roundabout.
